About WMU Trap
Nick, Braden and Jeremy were instrumental in growing the Saline Trap Team from 8 in 2018 to more than 50 when they graduated in 2021.
The Founders
Braden Osborne (center), Nick McManama (left) and Jeremy Hoerauf (right) are the founders of the Trapshooting at Western Michigan University. All three graduated from Saline High School in 2021. Continuing their favorite past-time was a vision they all had, so they decided to create the team in the spring of 2022.
All registered student organizations must have a Board of Directors. Braden is the President, Jeremy is the Treasurer and Nick is the Secretary.
Taking the Reins and Reigns
In the spring of 2024, the WMU Trapshooting Team nominated new officiers to "take the Bronco reins" and reign this team into the future! Caleb Breining (left) is the Treasurer, Braden Osborne (center) remains the President and Andrew Kapchinski (right) is the Secretary. These three have big plans for the trapshooting Broncos!
Plans include attending:
Amateur Trapshooting Association Fall Team Shoot in September, 2024 in Mason, Michigan
SCTP National Championship in the summer of 2025 in Marengo, Ohio
USA College Clay Target League National Championship in the fall of 2024 in Bunker Hill, Illinois
Tentatively attend the SCTP/ACUI National Championship in the spring of 2025 in San Antonio, Texas
Braden Osborne placed 1st in the conference averaging 24.4 out of 25 throughout the season. This also placed him 2nd in the nation in the USA College Clay Target League.
The Future Looks Good
The Trapshooting Team at Western Michigan University has grown from 5 athletes in their inaugural season to 17 this season. Western Michigan University has put their name on the USA College Clay Target map by finishing 3rd in the nation in the fall of 2023, and 3rd in the at the Scholastic Clay Target Program national championship in July, 2024. With most athletes returning next season, the goal for next season is to win the national championship!
Although the Trapshooting Team at WMU is a club organization, these athletes work hard to improve their skills! New members are welcome to join the team if he/she is a full time student at WMU, hold a SAFE certificate and have trapshooting experience.
2023 USA Nationals
The Trapshooting Team at Western Michigan University had a very successfull season! The team placed 3rd in the nation in the USA College Clay Target League! The team's success stems from the depth of talent on the team. Each individual on the team pushes each other to be better, creating great competition within the team.
Although Braden Osborne was the Conference champion, he did not qualify as one of the top 5 shooters in the national tournament. The top 5 shooters that brought home the bronze medal were: Michael Lusebrink, Ian Dickinson, Hunter Haystead, Andrew Kapchinski, and Caleb Breining. Way to go, Broncos!
2024 SCTP Nationals
In July 2024, the Trapshooting Team at WMU traveled to Marengo, Ohio to compete in the Scholastic Clay Target Program national championship. Five athletes from the WMU represented the team: Caleb Breining (pictured), Hunter Haystead, Nate Huddleston, Andrew Kapchinski and Braden Osborne.
Caleb Breining hit is second (in a row) 100 straight, along with his teammates recording personal best scores. Their combined score earned them 3rd place in the tournament placing just behind Hilldale College (Michigan) and Jacksonville University (Florida). Each member of the squad came home with personal medals and the team has this trophy to display at Western Michigan University.
Caleb Breining's outstanding performance of 198/200 earned him a 3rd place individual award placing just behind athletes from Massachusetts and Wisconsin. Congratulations WMU and Caleb!!
